functions and tasks

1. Vietnam Forest Museum is a civil service unit under Forest Inventory and Planning Institute (FIPI). The Museum takes over the functions to research, collect, store, display, introduce collected samples and materials about forest resources and bio-diversity in Vietnam related to forestry development process, serving the need for knowledge dissemination, education, scientific research, visit and tourism.

2. Vietnam Forest Museum has a legal status, separate stamp for transaction; is permitted to open account in the State Treasury and banks in accordance with the laws.

3. Vietnam Forest Museum is operated in the mechanism that a part of operational budget is self-generated in accordance with the regulations on public service units.

4. Vietnam Forest Museum is located in Hanoi City (within the precinct of Fipi in Vinh Quynh commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi).

B. Tasks and power of Vietnam Forest Museum

1. Lead the collection, storage, conservation and using management of natural resource specimens, and materials related to the development of Forestry Sector.

2. Organize scientific researches, assessment and classification of forest resource specimens; render cultural and scientific services in conformity with the functions of the Museum; research the application of scientific and technological advances in collection, manipulation, display, storage and management of specimens and materials, etc.

3. Organize the display, exhibitions, scientific workshops on knowledge dissemination, educational propaganda and training on forest resource and natural environmental protection.

4. Provide scientific and technical supports, professional instructions, and operational cooperation with local network of the Museum in a working, information sharing and exchanging relationship.

5. Propose, compile, and submit to competent authorities for approval the programs, projects related to common development of component structures of Vietnam Forest Museum.

6. Carry out international cooperation in relevant field of operation as delegated by the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development (MARD) and law regulations.

7. Manage and use assigned infrastructure, financial source and other properties in accordance with the law.

8. Implement other tasks assigned by Director General of FIPI.

9. Render consulting services in:

- Survey and research on socio-economic and environmental issues for the development of forestry sector including economic source, market economy, regional economy, local economy, environmental economy, and cultural, social and climate change issues related to the management, use, and development of forest resources.

- Survey and development of land use planning, forest planning and development, forestry development planning by sector, socio-economic development planning for rural and mountainous areas.

- Survey and development of economic and technical arguments, forestry development investment projects including sustainable forest preparation, public forest management, forest pricing; support to the payments for forest services; development of eco-tourism and urban trees.

- Implementation of forestry production design such as land and forest allocation, building of agro-forestry models.

- Inventory and assessment in bio-diversity.

- Creation, digitalization and printing of types of output maps.
