The first Earth day was 22^nd April 1970. The Earth Day was initiated by Gaylord Nelson, by an American senator, from the United States. In 2009, the United Nations General Assembly declared April 22 as International Mother Earth Day, or Earth Day. Until now, the Earth Day is held annually in more than 190 countries around the world with the participation of many agencies, organizations and schools. This event aims to raise public awareness and responsibility in protecting the natural environment of the green planet.
The theme of Earth Day 2023 is “INVEST IN OUR PLANET”. As one of the countries with the greatest climate change threats and biodiversity loss, in recent years, Vietnam is also actively cooperating with countries around the world to participate in wildlife conservation and nature protection. On April 12^th, 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the United Kingdom cooperated to support the foundation of the Biodiversity Landscape Fund. In addition, Vietnam choose sustainable economic development model associated with forest management, protection and development as the response to the Earth Day.
Environment education for the future generation has great contribution and influence to combat climate change and biodiversity loss. In the Vietnam Forest Museum, the officers and experts and students also enjoy the Earth Day through activities, including learning about animals and plants. and the causes of their extinction to motivate the next generation strive for a green future.
